the george w. bush administration, the debt ceiling was raised 19 times. the same republicans had a problem when president obama wanted to do it had no problem when they wanted to do it. one of their own wanted to do it. please let me finish. it is because of what the republicans did last time this came out. moody's lowered the bond rating of this country. megyn: just because you have a few drinks and get really tipsy, it doesn't mean that you should have 10 more and fall off the bus. to be this way. 1992 when bill clinton unseated george h.w. bush, these same counties, won 60% with the whole foods market. 40% with cracker barrel. so that was a 20-point gap. it's a 48-point gap now. >> there are some older votes, maybe the old fdr coalition that have shifted to the republican party. the democratic coalition of younger voters, hispanics, african-american, is just growing in size. >> if you had to pick a couple of counties that would epitomize that shift, you look at ohio and the white working class counties along the ohio river, coal country, belmont county, ohio, gave john kerry 52% of the vote in 2004. obama only won 44.7% this time around. if you had to look at a county that captures where democrats are doing better and better, it's probably in your home state, chuck, osceola, florida. outside of orlando, kissimmee, st. cloud, huge growing puerto rican population. consider that john kerry only won 47% of the vote there in 2004. guess where obama was this year? 61.7%. >> i challenge anybody to find another county with that dramatic of an uptick, that size of a county. spe

president george h.w. bush is at methodist hospital in houston after being treated for bronchitis. that is according to a family spokesman, jim mcgrath. president bush, who is 88 years old, has been at the hospital for six days now. he has been cured of his bronchitis, but mcgrath says he is still in the hospital because of a lingering cough. we're going to bring you more details as we get them. to today's big meeting at the white house. we don't know what's on the menu when president obama, mitt romney meet for lunch today. that's right. the president is hosting his former rival about 30 minutes or so from now. it is a promise the president made during a victory speech on election night. listen. >> it's only because we love this country deeply. we care so strongly about its future. in the weeks ahead i also look forward to sitting down with governor romney to talk about where we can work together to move this country forward. >> mitt romney, he was stunned by his defeat, but gracious in his concession speech. it looked like everybody was ready to make nice until romney's remarks

because now there comparisons this morning being made between president obama and president george w. bush overplaying a mandate, one through the election but overplaying it to the point where it would backfire as it did in president bush's case. >> what the president has asked for is 1.6 trillion net of new revenue. if you're going to get the kind of major entitlement reform that i and others believe you need to do to make sure that medicare and social security and other programs exist 20 years from now, there's that relationship to making sure there's a big enough revenue number. what he's laid out in terms of the rates just gets you a trillion. you will need net additional 500 billion beyond that i don't think he's overasked. everybody knows for those of us that have been successful, we'll pay more. more semantics about what format. let's have rates go back up. if we can really exercise the kind of discipline and tax reform that simpson-bowles and gang of six talked about it, we need to do that. >> speaker boehner would argue he's put a solution on the table that he'll compromise on ded
